Student-Staff Partnerships Symposium, University of Surrey: A student perspective

By Faye Davies (VP Activities, Union of Students) and Emily Fisher (L6, BSc Forensic Science)

Why is a whole conference needed on student/staff collaboration projects and what can you learn?

The answer: a lot more than you might think. On 16th September we travelled to the University of Surrey to present on how the Ignite (Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme) projects we completed within CLANS have impacted on us as students. Whilst there, academics, professional staff and other students learnt from each other about what can be gained by taking part in a wide range of collaborative projects. Throughout the day, we also had the opportunity to expand our knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of this important area of activity in order to help grow the student experience in the future, as well as give input on issues that other universities face. Overall we gained knowledge, empowering feedback from delegates and greater confidence in our abilities, whilst making a change by sharing our stories.
