AccessAbility: What is the Microsoft Accessibility Checker and how can it help me?

The Accessibility Checker is a tool in Microsoft Office designed to help make content accessible. We are all responsible for ensuring learning content can be accessed by all our students and the Accessibility Checker is a key tool to support us in doing this.

It provides:

  • A report on the accessibility of your document
  • Identifies warnings, issues and hints of areas to fix
  • Information on why you need to fix these issues
  • Guidance on how to fix these issues

Using the Accessibility Checker and fixing the issues it identifies before sharing your document with others students means it will be more accessible. However, it is important to be aware that there are issues which may be missed by this checker and using this alongside Ally when uploading content to the VLE is the best way to overcome accessibility issues.
